Inside the Courtroom: Inspiring young minds through mock trials

What if your first encounter with the justice system was inside a real courtroom, not as a spectator, but as a lawyer, magistrate or legal adviser?

This episode explores the Magistrates' Mock Trial Scheme, a partnership between HMCTS and Young Citizens that brings authentic courtroom experiences to thousands of 12 – 14-year-olds across the UK. We speak with Josh Shipp, Head of Operations at HMCTS, and Akasa Pradhan, Senior Education Manager at Young Citizens to hear how mock trials are building confidence, breaking down misconceptions and helping young people see the justice system not as something distant, but as something they can be part of.

We also hear from students Annabel and Benjamin from Hazelwick School in West Sussex and Adele from Bishopston Comprehensive School who took part in the recent London regional final and volunteers like Lord Ponsonby of Shulbrede, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State who give their time to make it happen.

Y tu mewn i’r Llys: Ysbrydoli meddyliau ifanc trwy dreialon ffug

Beth os byddech yn dod ar draws y system gyfiawnder am y tro cyntaf mewn llys go iawn, nid fel gwyliwr, ond fel cyfreithiwr, ynad neu gynghorydd cyfreithiol?

Mae’r bennod hon yn archwilio Cynllun Treial Ffug yr Ynadon, partneriaeth rhwng GLlTEF a Young Citizens sy’n dod â phrofiadau llys dilys i filoedd o unigolion 12 - 14 oed ar draws y DU.  Rydym yn siarad gyda Josh Shipp, Pennaeth Gweithrediadau, GLlTEF ac Akasa Pradhan, Uwch Reolwr Addysg yn Young Citizens i glywed sut mae treialon ffug yn datblygu hyder, cael gwared â chamsyniadau a helpu pobl ifanc i weld y system gyfiawnder nid fel rhywbeth pell, ond fel rhywbeth y gallant fod yn rhan ohoni.

Rydym hefyd yn clywed gan y myfyrwyr Annabel a Benjamin o Ysgol Hazelwick yng Ngorllewin Sussex ac Adele o Ysgol Gyfun Bishopston a gymerodd ran yn rownd derfynol ranbarthol Llundain yn ddiweddar a gwirfoddolwyr fel yr Arglwydd Ponsonby o Shulbrede, Is-ysgrifennydd Gwladol Seneddol a roddodd eu hamser i wneud iddo ddigwydd.

Gwrandewch ar y bennod ddiweddaraf nawr, ar gael o ble bynnag rydych chi'n gwrando ar eich podlediadau!
