In March 2018, we moved all the court and tribunal forms and closely related guidance onto new pages on GOV.UK. While the forms themselves have not changed, the new pages have links to related guidance, and we have included any existing notes on how to complete them right next to each form. We’ve also added Plain English descriptions to the top 90% of forms (as measured by the number of downloads.)
We’ve been working to move the remaining court and tribunal guidance from form finder to GOV.UK. This has also given us the opportunity to remove documents that were no longer being used or that were out of date.
Over 90% of user activity in relation to searching and viewing court and tribunal forms and guidance is already taking place on GOV.UK.
What’s changing with search
At the end of June 2018, we’ll have finished moving the guidance to GOV.UK.
We’ll then update form finder so that when you search, your search takes place on GOV.UK. Your results will be restricted to court and tribunal content, to keep them relevant. We plan to make this change at the start of July 2018.
After this your results will look different, but they’ll still be relevant.
Searching court and tribunal content on GOV.UK will be an improvement on the previous form finder search:
• Single search box - there will no longer be a need for you to choose between two search boxes. Your search can combine both form numbers, and words and phrases.
• Common word searches - many searches in form finder currently return no results, for example ‘d8 form’, ‘divorce form’, ‘divorce fees’, ‘divorce petition’ return zero results in the current form finder search, due to the way search terms are matched exactly. In a search of court and tribunal content on GOV.UK, these return relevant results and the correct forms for most of the same search terms, as well as bringing up relevant guidance that was not previously available via the form finder search.
• Quotes and punctuation - the new search supports quote marks for searching for exact phrases, and ignores any commas or other punctuation marks, like a regular search engine.
• All the results are available - prior to the forms moving, many users were searching on GOV.UK for court and tribunal forms and guidance. Because the forms and guidance were not on GOV.UK, they were not finding everything they needed. Likewise, users searching on form finder, were unable to find the many items of guidance that were only available on GOV.UK. Now all the content is in the same place.
We’ve checked hundreds of searches and results for forms and guidance, and worked to optimise the new pages to make sure that they come high up in search for relevant terms.
